Ann’s Cottage has been lovingly conserved by its present owners, in such a way as to maintain its old world charm. The cottage was named Ann’s Cottage after the previous owner Ann Olivier, who had an 84 yr. association with the cottage and the Wesley Methodist Church. This settler cottage was built in 1830 by William Pike junior when he got married to Sophia Usher. Subsequent additions were made to the building, and the cottage evolved in its early years, however the cottage has remained unaltered since being photographed for the 1820 settler centenary yearbook published in 1920. Some of the wagon wheel rim fencing which was found on the property has been incorporated as the palisade section of the Market street wall. James Pike, the son of William Pike was a wagon maker by trade. His wife Caroline Bax passed away on the 11 May 1916 and together they had 16 children. In 1912 Grannie Bax donated her vegetable garden to the Wesley Methodist Church, for the construction of a church next door. This Wesley Methodist Church houses the famous Somerset church organ, which was donated by Henry Somerset, son of Lord Charles Somerset.
